Tips on how to keep your skin well hydrated at altitude…

We all like our powder nice and dry, with big fat flakes…. but the same can’t be said about our skin. Keeping our skin moist and healthy at altitude takes some work. Here are our tips…

Why is my skin more dry at the snow?

The low humidity, temperature and windy mountains cause significant reduction in the water content of the skin.  When the skin is dry it can look unsightly but it can also be itchy and cause cracks in the skin.

How do I avoid dry skin?

Firstly, it is very important to avoid soap, as this can strip your skin of its natural oils and make you more dry. Try a non soap wash instead.

Secondly, you need put the water back in with a moisturiser. The best time to do this is after your shower, when your skin is already moist. You may even need to apply the moisturiser twice a day if your skin is very dry.

When choosing a non soap wash or moisturiser its best to keep it simple, avoiding anything with botanicals or fragrances.  Although these additives can smell nice they can sometimes cause irritation or allergy. Brands that are approved by Dermatologists include QV, AveenoAvene or Cetaphil

My lips are so dry and cracked. Help!

This is a common problem at the snow. The cold temperatures, windy conditions and high UV radiation all contribute to this. It is important to use a lip balm constantly at the snow, even before you start to get dry to prevent it occurring. When outside its important to use a lip balm with SPF to protect your lips from those harmful UV rays! We likeDermol Therapy lip balm SPF 50+or just plainVaselinewhen not outside
